Space

In art and in life, we need to make judicious use of space.
When we write, we use space to divide the chapters and sections of books, or the acts of plays. It visually helps the reader understand the story.
When we paint, we use space to define the edges or borders. Blank space might have just as much meaning as painted space.
Music also uses space in the form of pauses and breaths. It’s part of the flow of the music.
Right now, life feels like our understanding of space is out of balance. We literally have too much physical space between people, and it feels strange.
Our work space and school space is also … well, different. Space that used to be commonly shared, isn’t right now. It can be unsettling.
Distance, in the form of space, can be used artistically. In fact, it’s necessary. But too much space between human beings can be painful and lonely.
The challenge, right now, is that we don’t feel in control of our own space. It’s confusing and frustrating. We want space to be the way it used to be.
I feel it, too.
