How was your day?

We often ask someone how they’re doing, or wish them a nice day/evening/weekend.  That’s polite, of course.

Sometimes we really want to know, and other times, we’re just making conversation.  I wonder how often it happens that the other person really does need to answer that question and tell us about a day that wasn’t so great.

Today, we had a rough day at work.  We found out that many co-workers were being laid off.  It was announced today, effective tomorrow at the close of business.

My job is safe at this time, thankfully.  For that, I’m relieved and grateful.

At the same time, I am sad for those who lost jobs with very little notice, and for their families who depend on them.  It came as a shock to everyone that, for several colleagues, tomorrow will be their last day.

I’ve heard it said that everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.  It’s often invisible.  Job loss is just one of those battles, and for some, this setback is the latest in a long list.

All I can say in today’s post is this: use your creativity with love.  However you communicate, do it with kindness. When we put love into what we do, it helps us, too.

We have no idea where our art may end up, or where our work will lead, but we also have no idea who, out there, may need it.

So, send your work into the world on faith that you’re doing your part, and trust that it will get to the right recipient at the right time.

As I move throughout this week, I pray that my work will communicate love.
